During his career, lasting from 1945 to the early 2000s, Arthur Zelger (1914–2004) was the most significant Tyrolean graphic artist. He designed influential posters for the regional tourism marketing branch and created numerous logos for Tyrolean businesspeople.

This lettering has been in use for well over half a century. It shows a specific playfulness, but also a creative austerity that Arthur Zelger chose for his approach to the subject.
The nowadays world-famous Tirol logo was a result of a mere coincidence. As Arthur Zelger was receiving plenty of assignments from the tourism branch, he had to apply the “Tirol” lettering more than once.
Arthur Zelger's footsteps
Zelger stands for distinct developments in graphic design in the 20th century that were strongly associated with individual personalities. These individuals left their mark on design quality, domestically and internationally. Even today, some of Zelger’s letterings are still present in Innsbruck's urban space. Stores such as the Zelgerhaus, the Kranebitter furniture store, the Stummer hairdresser, the Putzenbacher company and the Bloder store in the old town, to only name a few.
Probably Arthur Zelger’s best-known logo, which has only been slightly altered to this day, is the “Tyrol” logo promoting Tyrolean tourism far beyond the federal state's borders.
