This lettering has been in use for well over half a century. It shows a specific playfulness, but also a creative austerity that Arthur Zelger chose for his approach to the subject. By using formal means, he shaped the synthetic material of plastic into letters. The long-drawn letters of “p” and “b” present the lettering with its very own character. The company’s central trade of rubber foam is represented by a capital “P”, including an “elastic shadow”, inserted into the façade. Zelger’s rhetoric oftentimes offers a slight wink of the eye. The typeface shows certain similarities to the font “Pump”. The question if Zelger used it as a basis for this particular work, or if he relied on his own drafts, can no longer be answered.
