Built in 1948, the Liberation Monument uses the type “Capitalis Monumentalis” as well. During the most recent redesign process in 2011, new inscriptions were added. The names of several courageous personalities from various resistance movements against the fascists were immortalized on the southern side of the monument.

The typeface “Peignot” was designed by the Ukrainian-born graphic designer Adolphe Mouron Cassandre, internationally renowned for his poster art. He designed “Peignot” for the 1937 Paris World's Fair, expanding on the concepts of then common typefaces. His primary intention was to use this typeface as an instrument to achieve a new understanding of certain power-related aspects.
