A full century of type history can be seen at the stores of Miller Optik. Around 1910, a wide serif typeface on a black enamel sign could be seen on the store’s façade. Later, in the 1930s, a playful script typeface was used, followed by an Art Deco typeface in post-war years, similar to “Neutra”, a typeface designed by the Austrian architect Richard Neutra, who was highly successful in America. During the last reconstruction, the portal lettering was made more discreet and the large, vertically arranged façade letters from the late 1930s were restored.
